How to Make a Victoria’s Secret Angel Costume

So you want to follow in the footsteps of Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen and Tyra Banks down the runway this Halloween? Although there were rumors earlier this summer that Victoria’s Secret was going to release a line of costumes this fall to allow everyone who wanted to join the ranks of Victoria’s Secret Angels on Halloween the opportunity to buy into the elite club, we still haven’t seen any evidence that they have actually done so. As of right now, your options are to make your own costume or buy a sexy angel costume. Fortunately, putting together your own costume isn’t as difficult as you might expect. You may even have some of the items already.

ANGEL WINGS

Your initial inclination may be to pick out a sexy pair of lingerie from Victoria’s Secret for your costume. We don’t recommend that you take this approach, however. We think that the first thing that you should do is pick out your angel costume wings. Here’s why: the world is full of sexy bra and panties sets in different color combinations, but the number of angel wings that you can buy is fairly limited.

We don’t want to discourage you from attempting to construct your own wings. If you are interested in putting in the time and energy to make your own angel wings, then you will certainly make a fabulous Victoria’s Secret Angel at your Halloween party. To give you some idea how much effort it might require, each pair of Victoria’s Secret Angel wings takes about four weeks to make. Here is the start of a video series on Youtube about the process.

But we don’t think that you need to dedicate the next month to making a pair of angel wings if you are willing to live with something a bit less fancy. If you are interested in making your own wings, we recommend that you start by gathering all of the photos of the models wearing wings that you can find and choosing the wings that you are going to attempt to make. Then head over to Youtube. You will find several instructional videos such as this one (just below) on how to make wings that have pretty much everything that you need to know to make your own angel wings.

If you decide to make them, you will certainly have earned the right to wear your wings this fall. After seeing that video, I’m sure you understand why I think it would just be easier to buy your wings. Fortunately, there are a number of options for sale. And since the wings for Victoria’s Secret models come in all different sizes, shapes, and colors, you have a lot of flexibility in what wings you can wear. Play this video to get an idea of some of the different angel wings that they have worn.

As you can see from the video, you aren’t limited solely to traditional white angel wings. You can also choose from the selection of adult fairy and butterfly wings to wear. This will give you a lot more options and I encourage you to take advantage of it.

ANGEL HALO

You don’t typically see the Victoria’s Secret Angel models wearing a halo. However, if you want your angel costume to be instantly recognizable, adding a halo would be appropriate. BRA AND PANTIES / LINGERIE

The Victoria’s Secret Angels models were initially formed to promote a Victoria’s Secret bra called Angels. The television commercials were so popular that Angels became synonymous with Victoria’s Secret and they started drafting models into their elite squad of Victoria’s Secret Angels.

To be true to the original intent of the Angels, you would buy a nice set of bra and panties to wear as part of your Halloween costume. Of course, we understand that some women are looking for something that isn’t going to be quite so revealing. We’re not sure if you fit into that category – since we’re sure that part of the goal of becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel for Halloween is to wear something hot, sexy, and revealing. But if you do, then we recommend that you buy a corset top and ruffled boy shorts for a bit more coverage while maintaining the sex appeal necessary to call your costume worthy of Victoria’s Secret.

HIGH HEELS

You can’t expect to walk down the runway at your Halloween party as a Victoria’s Secret Angel without the right pair of shoes, can you? We’ll leave you the task of picking out a pair of appropriately high heels. Remember, however, that you will be wearing angel wings strapped to your back so don’t make them so high as to make it difficult to maintain your balance while walking. In other words, we don’t want you to fall!

ABOUT THE VICTORIA’S SECRET ANGELS

Victoria’s Secret Angels debuted in 1999 at the fourth annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The Angels promoted the new seductive, sheer seamless lingerie of Victoria’s Secret while wearing their lingerie and angel wings in a 15 minute webcast from Manhattan. The cybercast, which was reported as the largest streaming video broadcast at the time, was seen by over 1.5 million people.

In 2001, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the Angels moved to television, flying over the crowd at Bryant Park in New York City to the gospel song, “Hallelujah”, in what was billed as the sexiest night on
television.

In 2005, Tyra Banks concluded her modeling career on the runway with one last walk as a Victoria’s Secret Angel.

In 2007, the Victoria’s Secret Angels were put on People Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Beautiful People in the World and received a start on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Adriana Lima – Best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret, Lima was the subject of a Super Bowl XLII ad that was watched by 103 million viewers. Lima entered modeling after winning Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” competition and placing second in Ford’s “Supermodel of the World”. In 2008, she ranked fourth on Forbes Magazine’s list of the world’s highest paid supermodels and in 2007 she placed 7th on FHM’s list of the 100 Sexiest Women of 2007.

Alessandra Ambrosio – Discovered when she won Brazil’s Elite Model Look competition, she has since appeared on over 50 magazine covers.

Miranda Kerr – Australian Kerr won the 1997 Dolly Magazine Model Competition, launching her career just before the age of 14. In 2007, she replaced Gisele Bundchen among the Victoria’s Secret Angels.

Marisa Miller – California born Miller has graced the cover of the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition and won the top spot on Maxim magazine’s 2008 Hot 100 list.
